Drew Friedman, a photorealistic cartoonist whose famed portraits of celebrities have appeared in numerous publications like The New York Times, Mad magazine, and Rolling Stone to name a few, has created a collection of portraits focused on publishers, editors and artists in the comic book world. The hardcover book, titled Heroes of the Comics: Portraits of the Legends of Comic Books, features Friedman’s signature illustrations of comic book heavy weights he chose himself such as Stan Lee, Harvey Kurtzman, R. Crumb, Will Eisner and more. The portraits will be side by side with individual essays about each person written by Friedman as well.
Heroes of the Comics: Portraits of the Legends of Comic Books will be published by Fantagraphics and will be available to purchase sometime in September. It is currently available to pre-order on the Fantagraphics website. You can check out a preview video of the interior pages here.
